SANTA ANA – Firefighters battling a duplex fire this afternoon discovered a body in a bedroom, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 12:28 p.m. after neighbors heard an explosion at a single-story duplex at 3502 West Calle del Sur, near Jackson Street, said Santa Ana Fire Department Capt. Chris Caswell.

The fire was under control in seven minutes with the help of 23 firefighters, Caswell said.

Firefighters discovered the body in the bedroom, where the fire is believed to have started, Caswell said.

Fire arson investigators and Santa Ana police are trying to determine the cause and origin of the fire, Caswell said.
