The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
- 5 dead – Occurred Saturday, 7/4 – Louisville, KY: A 10-month-old, three-year-old, and five-year-old boy were killed in a home fire along with a 21-year-old woman and an unidentified man. Investigators say a smoke alarm that was installed one year ago was not present when they inspected the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 2 dead – Occurred Sunday, 7/5 – North Berwick, ME (Portland, ME): A 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home had no working smoke alarms.
- 2 dead – Occurred Sunday, 7/5 – Raynham, MA (Boston, MA): An 83-year-old woman and her son in his late 50’s were killed in a mobile home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 2 dead – Occurred Saturday, 7/4 – Prince George’s County, MD (Washington, DC): Two men were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 7/5 – Black Brook, NY (Burlington, VT Plattsburgh, NY): A 67-year-old man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 7/5 – Aurora, IL (Chicago, IL): A 78-year-old man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home had no working smoke alarms.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 7/5 – Lillington, NC (Raleigh—Durham, NC): A person was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 7/3 – Erie, PA: A 50-year-old woman died in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 7/3 – Catskill, NY (Albany – Schenectady – Troy, NY): A person was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
