Tuesday, July 7 and Wednesday, July 8

The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:

  • 1 dead Occurred Tuesday, 7/7 Jacksonville, FL:  A woman was killed in a mobile home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Occurred Tuesday, 7/7 Wheeling, WV:  An elderly man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Occurred Friday, 7/3 Rogers, AR (Fort Smith, AR):  A 51-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Occurred Friday, 7/3 Albany, OR (Eugene, OR):  A 55-year-old man was killed in a mobile home fire. A cigarette left smoldering in a chair caused the fire.
  • 2 dead Occurred Tuesday, 7/7 St. Louis, MO:  A 43-year-old woman and her 64-year-old mother were killed in an apartment fire. The fire was caused by electrical problems.
  • 1 dead Occurred Tuesday, 7/7 Rockingham County, NC (Charlotte, NC):  A 60-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Occurred Sunday, 7/5 Towanda, KS (Wichita Hutchinson, KS):  A 38-year-old man was in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Occurred Sunday, 7/5 Sydney, CA (San Francisco, CA):  A 58-year-old woman was killed in an apartment fire. The fire started in the kitchen. The cause is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Occurred Saturday, 6/13 Columbus, GA:  A 40-year-old man died as a result of a home fire that occurred on Saturday, 6/13. The cause of the fire is under investigation.  

To find out more about any of the reported incidents, please contact news media in the vicinity where the fatal fire occurred. USFA does not have any additional information other than what is listed here.  


The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
