The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
- 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 8/26 – Grovetown, GA (Augusta, GA): A 67-year-old man was killed in a mobile home fire. Unattended candles used to provide light caused the fire.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 8/25 – Las Vegas, NV: A woman was killed in a home fire. The fire started in the bedroom. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 8/25 – Tyler, TX (Tyler – Longview, TX): A 68-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The fire started after the stove exploded.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 8/25 – Fern Creek, KY (Louisville, KY): A man was killed in a home fire. Smoke alarms were sounding when the fire occurred. The victim attempted to escape and was found in the kitchen. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 8/25 – Phillips, WI (Wausau, WI): A 36-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire. The fire started in the bedroom. The cause is under investigation.
To find out more about any of the reported incidents, please contact news media in the vicinity where the fatal fire occurred. USFA does not have any additional information other than what is listed here.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
