The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:

  • 2 dead Chattanooga, TN - A three-year-old boy and his seven-month-old sister were killed in an apartment fire. The children were left alone with their nine-year-old autistic brother who alerted neighbors about the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 2 dead Roseau, MN (Fargo, ND) – Two people were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Elmhurst, NY (New York, NY) – A 60-year-old woman was killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Logan County, WV (Charleston – Huntington, WV) – A 50-year-old woman was killed in a manufactured home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Brooklyn, NY (New York, NY) – An 11-year-old autistic boy was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead El Paso, TX – An 18-year-old woman succumbed to injuries sustained in a home fire that occurred Thursday, 2/11. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Miami County, KS (Kansas City, MO) – An 81-year-old woman was killed in a manufactured home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Seattle, WA - A man was killed in an apartment fire. The building houses disabled people and seniors. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead South Shore, IL (Chicago, IL) – A 65-year-old woman succumbed to injuries sustained in a home fire that occurred on Saturday, 2/6. The fire was caused by careless smoking.
  • 1 dead National City, CA (San Diego, CA) – A woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Grand Isle, LA (New Orleans, LA) – A 46-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The fire was caused by unattended cooking. Officials believe the victim fell asleep while cooking.
  • 1 dead Lynn, MA (Boston, MA) – A 68-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained in an apartment fire that occurred on Saturday, 2/13. The building houses disabled people and seniors. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
