The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:

Monday, February 15

  • 7 dead – Occurred Sunday, 2/14 – Cicero, IL (Chicago, IL):  A 20-year-old man, his 19-year-old girlfriend, their sons ages three-days-old, and three-years-old, 16-year-old male and female twins and an 18-year-old girl were killed in an apartment fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 
  • 4 dead – Occurred Saturday, 2/13 – Phelan, AL (Birmingham, AL):  A 38-year-old man, a 32-year-old woman, an 11-year-old girl and a three-year-old girl were killed in a home fire.  The fire was caused by a small heater placed too close to a bed.
  • 4 dead – Occurred Saturday, 2/13 – Flint, MI:  Four children, ages one, two, three, and four-years-old, were killed in an apartment fire.  The fire was caused by unattended cooking.  Officials believe an adult in the apartment fell asleep while cooking.
  • 3 dead – Occurred Saturday, 2/13 – Indianapolis, IN:  A 32-year-old woman, a 16-year-old boy, and an eight-year-old girl were killed in a home fire.  Officials believe the fire was caused by a space heater. 
  • 2 dead – Occurred Monday, 2/15 – Gulfport, MS:  A 74-year-old man and his 67-year-old wife were killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 2 dead – Occurred Sunday, 2/14 – New Ulm, MN (Mankato, MN):  A 68-year-old man and his 54-year-old wife were killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead - Occurred Monday, 2/15 - Port Byron, NY (Syracuse, NY):  A 68-year-old man was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 2/14 – Springfield, MO:  A 72-year-old woman was killed in a home fire.  The fire was caused by careless smoking. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 2/14 – Gray Court, SC (Greenville, SC – Asheville, NC):  A 45-year-old man was killed in a manufactured home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 2/13 – Manhattan, NY (New York, NY):  A 50-year-old woman was killed in an apartment fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 2/13 – Little Italy, OH (Cleveland, OH):  A 60-year-old woman was killed in an apartment fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 2/13 – Gretna, VA (Roanoke – Lynchburg, VA):  A 56-year-old man was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 2/13 – Pine Hill, NJ (Philadelphia, PA):  A person was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 2/13 – Buffalo, NY:  An 80-year-old man was killed in a home fire.  The fire was caused by a space heater.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 2/12 – Wadsworth, OH (Cleveland, OH):  A 40-year-old man was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
