Prostitution Ring Eyed at Fire Houses

WTF????
Former Atlanta fire chief Dennis Rubin is dealing with new trouble at his new job in Washington D.C. where fire officials are investigating whether department employees have been running a prostitution ring out of several of the city's firehouses.

Sources close to the investigation told the Washington Times that as many as a dozen employees stationed with at least four fire companies citywide are being investigated for involvement in the prostitution ring.

The sources reportedly said the ring has been referred to as "D.C. Fems" -- a play on the acronym for the city's Fire and Emergency Medical Services department.

Investigators are looking into whether female emergency medical technicians performed sex acts for money on men, including male fire department employees, in the bunkhouses of fire stations since late last year, sources said.

The investigation is also looking at whether a male fire officer might have also been involved in coordinating the operation, sources said.

Fire officials apparently learned of the ring during a criminal investigation last month of claims that a sergeant exposed himself to a female emergency medical technician.

Firefighter Arrested For Making False 911 Calls

A South-Central Kentucky firefighter has been arrested after allegedly making false 911 calls because he was bored.

Eighteen-year-old Joshua Garmon is a member of the East Barren Volunteer Fire Dept. Garmon was charged July 15, 2007, with nine counts of falsely reporting an incident.

The false calls came from cell phones that don't work, except for emergency calls.

Detective Rusty Anderson said Garmon reportedly made false reports of fires and wrecks with injuries because he wanted to go on fire runs.

Feud over firefighter's job reveals department discord

Feud over firefighter's job reveals department discord - Today's Paper > Local News | Bakersfield.com - Kern County news, events, shopping & search
Wow...rumors, sex and alchohol... Perception is everything! Click on the link above to read all of the sordid details!

The story so far

Fired firefighter Robby Pratt was disciplined for allegedly engaging in a sex act at a fire station that was witnessed by Capt. Bryan Perry back in 2003.

Pratt contends it didn’t happen.

Perry is the only witness.

Pratt was charged with drunken driving in August 2006.

The charges were dismissed for lack of evidence, but Fire Chief Ron Fraze and City Manager Alan Tandy fired Pratt.

The Fire Civil Service Commission heard Pratt’s appeal in February and upheld his firing.

Commissioner Stuart Gentry, who has since resigned, initiated contact with Pratt both before and during Pratt’s hearing. Pratt is asking for a new hearing. He also has three lawsuits against the city for unfair disciplinary actions.

“Is (Pratt) a saint?” asked Pratt’s lawyer Richard Middlebrook. “No. But did he get railroaded? Yes.”

Charles Brehmer, another lawyer for Pratt, said the city has ignored his demand for a new hearing.

“There’s been absolutely no response,” Brehmer said. “Surprise, surprise.”

History of the Black Firemen on the Los Angeles Fire Department, 1897 to 1956

History of the Black Firemen on the Los Angeles Fire Department, 1897 to 1956
From the Los Angeles Fire Department Historyical Archives I found this web site that chronicles the history of Black Firefighters through 1956.
Here is an excerpt:
Fire Station No. 14

On November 2, 1936, twelve years after the segregation of Engine 30 the white firemen were removed from Fire Station 14 and it also became all-black. Angry at being removed from their station, the whites trashed the building with garbage and fecal matter. The Battalion Chief ordered them back to clean up their mess.

Philadelphia police outraged over firefighter's rap lyrics

Philadelphia police outraged over firefighter's rap lyrics - International Herald Tribune
Freedom of speech in the Fire Department? Not so much.
PHILADELPHIA: The police force union in Philadephia called Monday for the immediate firing of a city firefighter and aspiring rapper who wrote anti-police lyrics about turning "pigs into bacon bits."

The Fraternal Order of Police demanded the dismissal of Rodney Jean-Jacques, who raps under the name Cal Akbar. The word "pig" is derogatory slang for police officer.

Jean-Jacques' music received positive notice in 2005, when he wrote and performed "Take It Outside," a song encouraging fire safety. The song was promoted by the Fire Department and was shown during the broadcast of a football game between the Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys.

Firefighter convicted in obscene material scandal may lose job

SOLON TOWNSHIP - Two years ago, Solon Township firefighter Mike Havens was convicted of attempting to distribute obscene matter to a minor. Havens addressed the Solon Township Board, where his career as a fireman was on the line at Tuesday's meeting."I plead guilty to a misdemeanor, if you look at anything else those are all accusations," said Havens.Solon Township Supervisor, Bob Ellick told the board that the severity of Havens' crime just came to his attention.Ellick then passed out the complaint filed against Havens to other board members.Havens claims he was forthcoming about the incident all along, and accused Supervisor Ellick of knowing the exact nature of the misdemeanor."You knew from the beginning and you have made an attempt to say I hid this, and it's not true," said Havens. The township board voted unanimously, charging Havens with misconduct. The fate of his job will be discussed at a hearing March 21st. Some in attendance offered praise for Havens' work and his 18 year commitment to the fire department."I voted for him as firefighter of the year and I would vote for him again today as firefighter of the year," said Solon Township Resident Reese Rickards. However, Rickards later told WZZM 13 he offered additional comments at the meeting criticizing Havens and demanded he resign.Other community members say Havens has no place in public service, and expressed more anger that nothing was done to remove Havens sooner.
