The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
- 2 dead – Occurred Thursday, 5/7 – Calverton, NY (New York, NY): Two women, ages 85 and 58, were killed in a mobile home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 2 dead – Occurred Monday, 5/4 – University Heights, OH (Cleveland, OH): A 78-year-old man and a 77-year-old woman were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Thursday, 5/7 – Chicago, IL: A woman was killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No batteries were found in the smoke alarm.
- 1 dead – Occurred Thursday, 5/7 – Columbia, SC: A 44-year-old man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home had no working smoke alarms..
- 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 5/6 – Waverly, NY (Binghamton, NY): A person was killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 5/4 – Grand Rapids, MI: A 27-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 5/4 – Bagley, MN (Fargo, ND): A 66-year-old man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
