The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
- 5 dead – Occurred Saturday, 5/16 – Shell Knob, MO (Springfield, MO): A 22-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman and her three children ages three, two-years-old, and seven-months-old were killed in a mobile home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 2 dead – Occurred Saturday, 5/16 – Anniston, AL (Birmingham, AL): A young child and woman were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 2 dead – Occurred Saturday, 5/16 – Vicksburg, MS (Jackson, MS): Two boys, ages four and one-year-old were killed in a mobile home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 2 dead – Occurred Friday, 5/15 – Flora, IN (Indianapolis, IN): A 40-year-old woman and her children ages four and seven-years-old were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire was electrical.
- 2 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 5/13 – McMinnville, TN (Nashville, TN): Two children were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 5/18 – Plymouth, MA (Boston, MA): An elderly woman was killed in a mobile home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home had no working smoke alarms.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 5/16 – Whitman, MA (Boston, MA): A 73-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home had no working smoke alarms.
- 1 dead – Occurred Thursday, 5/14 – Oconto County, WI (Green Bay – Appleton, WI): A 40-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
