 Friday and Monday, October 9 - 12

The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:

  • 2 dead – Occurred Friday, 10/9 – Huron Township, MI (Detroit, MI):  Two young children were killed in a mobile home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 10/9 – Peoria, AZ (Phoenix, AZ):  An elderly woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 10/9 – San Jose, CA (San Francisco, CA):  A person was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Thursday, 10/8 – New Bedford, MA:  A woman was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 3 dead – Occurred Sunday, 10/11 – Parkersburg, WV:  Two adults and a child were killed in a home fire.  The fire is believed to be caused by an electric heat source.  The home had no working smoke alarms.
  • 3 dead – Occurred Friday, 10/9 – Duluth, GA (Atlanta, GA):  Three sisters, ages 12, 17, and 19-years-old were killed a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 2 dead – Occurred Sunday, 10/11 – Flint, MI:  A man and a woman in their 40s were killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  The home had no working smoke alarms.
  • 2 dead – Occurred Sunday, 10/11 – Waynesboro, VA (Richmond, VA):  A couple in their 90s were killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 2 dead – Occurred Sunday, 10/11 – Houston, TX:  Two boys, ages two and four-years-old were killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 2 dead – Occurred Saturday, 10/10 – Weslaco, TX (Brownsville – McAllen, TX):  A 46-year-old woman and her 12-year-old son were killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 10/12 – Philadelphia, PA:  A man was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 10/11 – Anchorage, AK:  A man was killed in a mobile home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 10/10 – Harrison, OH (Cincinnati, OH):  A man in his 40s was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 10/9 – Chicago, IL:  A two-year-old girl was killed in a home fire.  The fire was caused by a space heater.   The home had no working smoke alarms.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 10/9 – Austin, TX:  A man was killed in a home fire. The fire was caused by a power strip.
 To find out more about any of the reported incidents, please contact news media in the vicinity where the fatal fire occurred. USFA does not have any additional information other than what is listed here.  


The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
