The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:

Tuesday, January 12

  • 2 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/11 – Waynesburg, PA (Pittsburgh, PA):  An 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 2 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/11 – Mingo, WV (Clarksburg - Weston, WV):  Two people, in their 70s, were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 2 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/11 – Thayer County, NE (Lincoln, NE):  Two boys, ages four and two-years-old, were killed in a home fire.  Fire officials said the boys were playing with a lighter, which started the fire.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/12 – North Brunswick, NJ (New York, NY):  One person was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/12 – Oak Cliff (Dallas, TX):  An 86-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/11 – Mobile, AL:  An 80-year-old man was killed in a home.  The fire was caused by a space heater.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/11 – Cooter, MO (Memphis, TN):  A 71-year-old man was killed in a home.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/11 – Montrose, CO:  An 86-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a home fire that occurred on Sunday, 1/10.  The fire was caused by careless smoking.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/11 – Vicksburg, MS (Jackson, MS):  An 83-year-old woman was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 1/9 – Clearwater, FL (Tampa - St. Petersburg, FL):  An 81-year-old man was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 1/9 – Morehead, KY (Lexington, KY):  A 60-year-old man was killed in a manufactured home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
