The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:

Wednesday, January 13

  • 4 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/11 – Lawrence County, IL (Rockford, IL):  A 33-year-old woman, her two daughters, ages nine and five-years-old, and her six-month-old son, were killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 
  • 2 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 1/13 – Kansas City, KS :  A two-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy were killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  The home had no working smoke alarms. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 1/13 –Philadelphia, PA:  A person was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 1/13 – Blanchester, OH (Cincinnati, OH):  A 69-year-old woman was killed in an apartment fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 1/13 – Roseville, IL (Davenport, IA – Rock Island – Moline, IL):  A man in his 40s was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 1/13 – Wedowee, AL (Atlanta, GA):  A 76-year-old man was killed in a manufactured home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/12 – Livingston, LA (Baton Rouge, LA):  A bedridden man was killed in a manufactured home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/12 – Round Rock, TX (Austin, TX):  A person was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/12 – Huntingtown, MD (Washington, DC):  A 79-year-old woman was killed in a home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.   
  • 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/12 – Jacksonville, FL:  A seven-month-old boy died from injuries sustained in a home fire that took place the night before Thanksgiving.  The fire was caused by a space heater. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/12 – Murfreesboro, TN (Nashville, TN):  A 55-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire.  The fire was caused by the man smoking while using oxygen. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/11 – New Braunfels, TX (San Antonio, TX):  A 53-year-old man was killed in a home fire.  The fire was caused by the misuse of an open-flame fire bowl. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/11 – Lenoir, NC (Charlotte, NC):  A 61-year-old woman died from injuries sustained in an apartment fire that occurred on 1/6.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation. 
  • 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 1/10 – Lakeland, GA (Tallahassee, FL – Thomasville, GA):  A 51-year-old man was killed in a mobile home fire.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
