The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
- 4 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 1/14 – Greeley, IA (Cedar Rapids, IA): Four children were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 2 dead – Occurred Thursday, 1/15 – Houston, TX: A woman and her teenage child were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead– Occurred Thursday, 1/15 – Gastonia, NC (Charlotte, NC): A man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Thursday, 1/15 – Benson, NC (Raleigh - Durham, NC): A person was killed in a mobile home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Thursday, 1/15 – Chatman County, NC (Greensboro – Winston Salem, NC): A person was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 1/14 – Beech Grove, IN (Indianapolis, IN): A person was killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 1/14 – Caspian, MI (Marquette, MI): A person was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/13 – Orchard, NE (Sioux City, IA): An 84-year-old man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Thursday, 12/25 – Lynn Haven, AL (Birmingham, AL): A 44-year-old man died today, 1/15, from injuries sustained in a home fire on 12/25. A burning candle caused the fire.
To find out more about any of the reported incidents, please contact news media in the vicinity where the fatal fire occurred. USFA does not have any additional information other than what is listed here.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
