I am gathering information for a college research project.  I am interested in any information that you can provide that addresses Emergency medical service care and transportation during live fire training events (SOP’s, department policy, etc.)  Do you have an ambulance on location at all times?  Do you assign individual(s) to the EMS function without an Ambulance?  Do your EMS providers also fulfill roles/tasks outlined by NFPA 1584?  I would appreciate any information you can share.

Thank you.

The Elgin Fire Department is evaluating expanding the types of alarms that we respond to Code 2 (no lights/siren).  We are looking for examples of policies/SOG’s or other information from departments that utilize a no lights/no siren response to certain types of incidents.  We are particularly interested in how you have addressed response to automatic fire alarms and also the topic of diverting from Code 2 responses if another (i.e. higher priority) alarm comes in, who decides and is the call “stacked” or another unit dispatched?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Does anyone have a policy or procedure that has been developed for the rapid but safe removal of turnout gear from a Firefighter (including SCBA) when the Firefighter has experienced a trauma such as a fall from height where the Firefighter is obviously or likely to be seriously injured c-spine and or orthopedically?

Also, does anyone have any anecdotal stories to relate in respect to the above question where a Firefighter was injured and needed his turn outs/SCBA removed rapidly and safely from c-spine/orthopedic injury perspective?

Thanks

My department is looking for a better yearly evaluation form.  We are currently using an evaluation with scoring of up to 100, but we are interested in a pass/fail type of annual evaluation.  We would be interested in seeing any form regardless of scoring methods.  All suggestions will be considered and taken constructively.

LESSONS LEARNED INFORMATION SHARING

LLIS.gov Partners with US Fire Administration

As part of its continual effort to improve information sharing across the emergency response and homeland security communities, LLIS.gov launched a new partnership with the US Fire Administration (USFA). The USFA strives to provide national leadership to local fire and emergency services departments. To highlight the new partnership, LLIS.gov has created a new USFA Resource Page where members can access USFA technical and special reports, related LLIS.gov original content, featured documents, and valuable links. To access the resource page, log onto LLIS.gov and click on US Fire Administration under LLIS.GOV PARTNERS.

The LLIS.gov Team continues to post new Lessons Learned, Best Practices, Practice Notes, and Good Stories to the system on a regular basis. Lessons Learned

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LLIS.gov has partnered with the Emergency Management and Response – Information Sharing and Analysis Center (EMR-ISAC) to provide LLIS.gov members access to the EMR-ISAC’s free, critical infrastructure protection (CIP) information. Located at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, MD, the EMR-ISAC was developed to collect, analyze, and disseminate timely, consequential information to assist in the practice of critical infrastructure protection by the leaders, owners, and operators of the nation’s Emergency Services Sector.

The EMR-ISAC, a no-cost information sharing program within the Department of Homeland Security, specifically provides information necessary to protect local internal critical infrastructures (i.e., personnel, physical assets, and communication/cyber systems that must be intact and operational 24 x 7) against all hazards, from natural disasters to terrorist activities. The program’s main focus is ensuring that emergency response leadership, their organizations, and local policy leaders have both the internal and external support and resources to aid in disaster protection, prevention, and response to enhance survivability, continuity of operations, and mission success.

The EMR-ISAC can be contacted at emr-isac@dhs.gov or 301-447-1325. To view the EMR-ISAC page on LLIS.gov, please click here or login to LLIS.gov and click on the EMR-ISAC link on the homepage. Registration and Payment

Registration for this Instructor Certification Seminar is completed by visiting the following web page to register with IPSLEI. If the hyperlink does not work, simply cut and paste the link into your browser and it should then work. This extra step is necessary so that we also have your detailed contact information and statements of understanding on file.  If there will be more than one person registering from your institution or agency, each person will need to complete the online registration form or have it completed for them, including alternates

 https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=pZOgkJBt61ioxPWVlhH5ig_3d_3d

IMPORTANT: Please complete this online registration form no later than April 22, 2009 Because of security matters at the NETC/NFA we must forward the names of all attendees and the last 4 digits of their social security number on April 24, 2009. This must include any potential alternates.  After this date there can be no additions or substitution of attendees, only cancellations.  International attendees please use contact information below to discuss identification information needed by the NETC/NFA

Once you have completed the online registration form, we will invoice for the Program Materials.  Your registration is not complete until the Program Materials fee is paid in full ($450.00).  For institutions or agencies registering multiple individuals, we will issue a single invoice to the institution or agency.  We will not invoice for Alternates who register since they would receive the materials purchased for the person unable to attend whose place they are taking.

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to the Instructor Certification Seminar in May! Please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail if you have any questions or difficulties!
