The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
Tuesday, January 5, 2010
- 3 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/5 – Detroit, MI: A woman and two men were killed in a home fire. The home had no power. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 2 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/5 – Griffin, GA (Atlanta, GA): A four-year-old girl and her two-year-old sister were killed in a manufactured home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 2 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/4 – Lansing, IL (Chicago, IL ): A five-year-old boy and his two-year-old brother were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/5 – Hidalgo County, TX (Brownsville - Mc Allen, TX): A woman was killed in a manufactured home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 1/5 – Philadelphia, PA: A woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/4 – Milwaukee, WI: An elderly woman, believed to be 90-years-old, was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is faulty wiring.
- 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/4 – La Jolla, CA (San Diego, CA): A 94-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is faulty wiring.
- 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/4 – Portsmouth, OH (Charleston - Huntington, WV): A 65-year-old woman was killed in a manufactured home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/4 – Fort Payne, AL (Huntsville, AL): A 22-year-old pregnant woman was killed in a manufactured home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 1/4 – Murfreesboro, TN (Nashville, TN): A 49-year-old man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 1/3 – St. Louis, MO: A man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is believed to be cooking related.
To find out more about any of the reported incidents, please contact news media in the vicinity where the fatal fire occurred. USFA does not have any additional information other than what is listed here.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
