The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
- 2 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 3/4 – Tyler, TX: An elderly man and woman were killed in a home fire. A space heater placed too close to a bed caused the fire.
- 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 3/4 – Washington, DC: A 64-year-old woman was killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 3/4 – Fort Edward, NY (Albany – Schenectady – Troy, NY): A person was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 3/3 – Stanley, VA (Washington, DC): A five-year-old child was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 3/3 – Central Falls, RI (Providence, RI – New Bedford, MA): A 44-year-old woman was killed in an apartment fire. A cigarette caused the fire.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 3/3 – Mobile, AL: An 88-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 3/3 – Augusta, GA: An 82-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. A space heater caused the fire.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 3/3 – Phoenix, AZ: A woman in her early 40s was killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 3/1 – Elmira, NY: A two-year-old boy was killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 2/27 – Tacoma, WA: A 43-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
