The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
- 5 dead – Occurred Friday, 3/13 – Etowah County, AL (Huntsville, AL): Two adults and three children were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 3 dead – Occurred Saturday, 3/14 – Charlotte, NC: A 36-year-old woman and her two children ages 13 and three-years-old were killed in a home fire. The fire was caused by unattended cooking.
- 2 dead – Occurred Friday, 3/13 – Greenville, MS: Two-year-old twin girls were killed in a home fire. A stove used to warm the home was left unattended.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 3/15 – Harrisburg, PA: A woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 3/15 – Middleburg, FL (Jacksonville, FL): An 80-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 3/14 – Gaffney, SC (Greenville, SC - Asheville, SC): A man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 3/14 – Chicago, IL: A woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home had no working smoke alarms.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 3/14 – Ontario, NY (Rochester, NY): A 61-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 3/14 – Philadelphia, PA: A 75-year-old hearing impaired man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials found an alarm without batteries.
- 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 3/13 – Sunrise, FL (Miami – Fort Lauderdale, FL): A three-year-old boy was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 3/13 – Lakefield, MN (Minneapolis – St. Paul, MN): A 78-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
To find out more about any of the reported incidents, please contact news media in the vicinity where the fatal fire occurred. USFA does not have any additional information other than what is listed here.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
