The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:

  • 2 dead Occurred Thursday, 3/5 Philadelphia, PA:  A mother and her eight-year-old daughter were killed in a home fire. The fire was caused by an illegal power hook-up.
  • 2 dead Occurred Wednesday, 3/4 Hamilton Township, GA (Columbus, GA):  Two people were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Occurred Thursday, 3/5 Evansville, IL (St. Louis, MO):  A person was killed in a mobile home fire. Fire officials believe a wood stove may have started the fire.
  • 1 dead Occurred Wednesday, 3/4 Faribault, MN (Minneapolis St. Paul, MN):  A 48-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
  • 1 dead Occurred Wednesday, 3/4 Provo, UT (Salt Lake City, UT):  A 38-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire. Fire officials believe the fire started after a hot object was dropped into a basket of clothes and caught fire. The smoke alarm had no batteries.
  • 1 dead Occurred Tuesday, 3/3 North Augusta, SC (Augusta, GA):  An 80-year-old man was killed in a home fire. Fire officials believe an electrical problem may have caused the fire.

To find out more about any of the reported incidents, please contact news media in the vicinity where the fatal fire occurred. USFA does not have any additional information other than what is listed here.  


The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
