The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
- 3 dead – Occurred Saturday, 1/31 – Charity Chapel, AL (Mobile, AL – Pensacola, FL): A nine-year-old girl and two 11-year-old boys were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 3 dead – Occurred Friday, 1/30 – Healdton, OK: A woman and her two children, 3-year-old boy and 18-month-old girl were killed in a home fire. Fire officials believe the fire was caused by a space heater.
- 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 2/2 – Mystic, CT (Hartford – New Haven, CT): A person was killed in a mobile home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 2/1 – Lonoke, AR (Little Rock, AR): A three-year-old boy was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 2/1 – Williamstown, PA (Philadelphia, PA): A 69-year-old man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 2/1 – Abilene, TX: A woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Sunday, 2/1 – Augusta, GA: A two-month-old was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 1/31 – North Huntington Township, PA (Wilkes Barre – Scranton, PA): An 83-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. Fire officials believe alternative heat sources caused the electrical system to malfunction and start the fire.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 1/31 – Gainesville, GA (Atlanta, GA): A 62-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. Fire officials believe the fire started from combustibles being too close to a heater. The home had no working smoke alarms.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 1/31 – Wichita, KS: A 28-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The fire was caused by unattended cooking.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 1/31 – Lehi, UT (Salt Lake City, UT): A man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 1/31 – Willow Spring, NC (Raleigh – Durham, NC): A 66-year-old man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
To find out more about any of the reported incidents, please contact news media in the vicinity where the fatal fire occurred. USFA does not have any additional information other than what is listed here.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
