The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
- 4 dead – Occurred Thursday, 2/19 – Lawrence, NY (New York, NY): A 46-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man, and two girls, ages nine and 13-years-old were killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 3 dead – Occurred Friday, 2/20 – Madison, AR (Memphis, TN): Three children were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Friday, 2/20 – Toledo, OH: A 52-year-old woman was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Thursday, 2/19 – Somerset, MA (Providence, RI – New Bedford, MA): A woman was killed in a home fire. Fire officials believe the fire was caused by a gas leak.
- 1 dead – Occurred Thursday, 2/19 – Joplin, MO: A person was killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Saturday, 2/14 – Dixon, IA (Davenport, IA – Rock Island – Moline, IL): A 55-year-old man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
