The Nation's news media is reporting the following residential fire (non-arson) fatalities:
- 2 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 2/25 – Queens, NY (New York, NY): Two people were killed in an apartment fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The apartment had no working smoke alarms.
- 1 dead – Occurred Wednesday, 2/25 – Greer, SC (Greenville, SC – Asheville, NC): An elderly man was killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 2/24 – Maiden, NC (Charlotte, NC): A three-year-old boy was killed in a mobile home fire. A toy thrown into a kerosene heater caused the fire.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 2/24 – Indianapolis, IN: A man and woman were killed in a home fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 2/24 – Poquoson, VA (Norfolk, VA): A 74-year-old woman were killed in a home fire. The fire is believed to have been sparked by a cigarette.
- 1 dead – Occurred Tuesday, 2/24 – Richburg, NY (Buffalo, NY): A 30-year-old man was killed in a home fire. A faulty stove pipe on a wood stove caused the fire.
- 1 dead – Occurred Monday, 2/23 – Pennsauken, NJ (Philadelphia, PA): An elderly woman was killed in a home fire. The fire was caused by a space heater.
The United States Fire Administration recommends everyone should have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and practicing a home fire escape plan.
